I am so happy to introduce this new pattern to you today! Our BRAND NEW Women's Off the Shoulder Top is FINALLY HERE in our PATTERN SHOP! This pdf sewing pattern will help you create a knit, off the shoulder top with raglan sleeves, beautifully draped lantern sleeves and an optional high/low hem for all the coverage you need and I am here to help you choose just the right knit fabric to make sewing yours a success!
This Women's Off the Shoulder Top pdf sewing pattern has been in the works for quite some time! As with anything it all starts from a piece of inspiration that just grows and grows! I started with inspiration from all the trendy, off the shoulder tops in stores right now which led to drawing out different styles on paper. I played around with shirt length, sleeve types, hem types, fabric colors...etc. Then I had a blast sewing up mock ups until that lantern sleeve was just right!! Off to scanning, typing, color coding, taking pictures and sending it to testers before it gets edited the final time! The list of things that go on behind the scenes before a pattern is published is pretty endless..but SO MUCH FUN!! And I am so glad this is part of our pattern collection! It is trendy but timeless and I think you will LOVE making it and wearing it!
Let's talk fabrics!
For this pattern you can choose fabrics such as cotton/spandex; rayon/spandex; matte jersey; cotton jersey knit; cotton/lycra or similar.
Here are the fabrics that the testers chose and I'll describe them each for you!
Cotton Spandex: The one shown above is a Girl Charlee cotton/spandex blend which is soft, has great drape and a 4 way stretch. Perfect for flowy tops like our new pattern! You can find similar fabrics at Girl Charlee Fabric Shop like this one HERE, modern circles HERE, floral and stripe Art Gallery Fabric HERE and Black Greek Symbol fabric HERE.
Rayon/Spandex - see below.
Rayon Spandex: In the pictures above they each used a rayon/spandex blend. This knit blend fabric is wrinkle free and crease resistant, which makes it a great choice for apparel projects that require a bit of stretch. You can find rayon/spandex fabric like this Abstract Print HERE or Geometric Print HERE You can machine wash this fabric, but be sure to line dry it.
ITY Knit: ITY stands for Interlock Twist Yarn - this fabric has great stretch, a soft feel inside and out, does not wrinkle and comes in solids and prints. You can find them at Fabric Mart HERE or at Fabric.com HERE.
Matte Jersey: The two above are made from matte jersey. Mood Fabrics has a colorful selection that you can find HERE. Matte jersey is sturdy, durable and machine washable! It has a medium weight, is comfortable to wear, does not cling to your body, does not wrinkle (great for traveling!) and has great drape!
Matte Jersey also used in the picture above.
4 Way Stretch: The one above was made with a four way stretch, cotton spandex which is great for making tops and lounge wear. It stretches top to bottom and left to right, is comfortable and does not wrinkle. You can find similar fabric at Fabric.com like this Art Gallery Fabric HERE, this HERE, or this dot fabric HERE.
Cotton/Lycra is a very smooth fabric that is a combination of cotton and spandex and has excellent recovery when stretched. You can also machine wash it and tumble dry. You can find cotton/lycra fabric HERE at Girl Charlee and plenty of solids HERE at Purple Seamstress.
I hope this helps you choose a fabulous new fabric for your Off the Shoulder Top!
